The weather might get cold in January, but that doesn't mean you have to spend the whole month cuddled up indoors! In fact, there are a lot of fun, outdoor activities you can enjoy in the Baton Rouge area this time of year. Whether you're in the mood for some vigorous exercise or a more relaxing activity, here are some adventures our real estate agents recommend.
- Mississippi River Levee Path: Wiltz Lane & Patterson Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70801
If you're in the mood for some casual walking or jogging, the Mississippi River Levee Path is a great place to go in January. This paved path stays dry and passable, even in poor weather. It's 22 miles long in total, but the 5.3-mile section through Woldenberg Park is beautiful. Why not stop by after visiting some Baton Rouge open houses?
This trail runs right alongside the Mississippi River, so you'll often see water birds along the way. Motor vehicles are not allowed, but leashed dogs are welcome.
- Red Stick Farmers Market: 5th and Main St., Baton Rouge, LA 70801
The Red Stick Farmers Market is a lovely, open-air market where you can purchase locally grown produce and locally made food products. It takes place every Saturday from 8:00 am - noon.
This time of year, you'll find plenty of squash, potatoes, and other root vegetables at the market. There are also local bakeries selling bread and various desserts, along with plenty of craft items that make lovely gifts and home decor. The market is open rain or shine, so dress accordingly!
- Pedego Electric Bikes: 711 Jefferson Hwy., Suite 1C, Baton Rouge, LA 70806
If you're in the mood for some moderate exercise, why not rent an electric bike and take your own tour of Baton Rouge? Pedego Electric Bikes is a locally owned shop where you can rent or buy e-bikes. Prices start at just $50 per bike for a half-day rental. This is a great activity to enjoy with the whole family.
Some people rent an e-bike and tour the Live Oaks & Garden District. You could also tour the downtown area. Ask about picnic packages, which come with a picnic trailer, basket, and delicious food for you to enjoy on your tour.
- Old Arsenal Museum: 900 State Capitol Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70802
The Old Arsenal Museum is a great place to get outside and learn about Baton Rouge's history. You can tour the grounds and learn how troops were housed here during the Civil War.
Right now, tours take place on Thursdays between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. There is no charge for admission. This museum is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it's located right along the Mississippi River.
We hope you get the chance to spend time outside this January. Don't forget to contact us if you're looking for Baton Rouge homes for sale.
