Every neighborhood near New Orleans homes for sale has its own vibe and stories, with some boasting histories that date back more than 300 years. Our real estate agents have more on what you can discover when exploring New Orleans' historic neighborhoods on two feet or two wheels.
French Quarter
The neighborhood where it all started, the French Quarter, has been at the heart of New Orleans for 300 years, serving as a place where you can always find history, culture, and, of course, a good time. The French Quarter and the Garden District, which we'll cover below, are both recognized as National Historic Landmarks. You'll discover famous places like the French Market and Spanish Plaza, along with countless museums on topics both familiar and obscure. When you're ready to take a break from exploring for a meal, you'll find some of the most legendary restaurants in New Orleans around the French Quarter.
Central Business District
Like the French Quarter, the Central Business District packs so much to see and do into one amazing, historic neighborhood. The history here dates back to the early 1800s, and the neighborhood is home to some excellent, well-known museums, including the National WWII Museum. In the mood for art instead? The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is well worth a visit, featuring artists from Louisiana and across the South. This district is also home to the Superdome and Convention Center, so it's home to some of the biggest events in the city.
Garden District
The Garden District is known as one of the most walkable historic neighborhoods in the city, and it more than lives up to its name as one of the most scenic. If you love historic architecture, pick any direction and start walking or riding in the Garden District to find a wealth of distinctive, historic homes. Magazine Street is the heart of the neighborhood, lined with countless boutique shops with NOLA flair and just as many outstanding places to grab a bite. In the mood for a taste of New Orleans history? Make a reservation at Commander's Palace for an elegant dinner, their famed Jazz Brunch, or their 25-cent Martini Lunch.
Uptown Historic District
Do you love a walkable neighborhood with a beautiful college campus? The Loyola University campus is located in the Uptown Historic District, with oaks and olive trees lining the scenic streets. The theme of great places to eat continues here, including a wide variety of outdoor cafes. This is also a largely residential neighborhood, so it's another fantastic place to spot diverse, historic architecture while you walk or ride.
