Yesterday's roller rink is today's collection of charming boutiques. In 1884, The Rink held the distinction of being the largest roller skating rink in the country. In a masterful stroke of repurposing, the facility is now home to a handful of small businesses. Be sure to visit the Garden District Book Shop and stop for coffee at the Chicory House. The Rink is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Commander's Palace - 1403 Washington Ave., New Orleans. LA 70130
New Orleans gained a worldwide reputation as a culinary mecca thanks to restaurants such as the iconic Commander's Palace. While the classic Creole seafood restaurant dates back to 1893, Commander's Palace truly achieved landmark status when "Miss Ella" Brennan took over in 1969. Legendary chefs Paul Prudhomme and Emeril Lagasse made their names here, and the restaurant's many awards include induction into the Culinary Institute of America Hall of Fame. Commander's Palace is open seven days a week for dinner, with lunch served Thursday through Sunday. Reservations are strongly recommended, and there is a dress code.
