If you're someone who loves locally made food and delicious wine, then there's a lot to look forward to in January. This month, there are several awesome culinary events taking place in New Orleans. Whether you'd like to discover a new cuisine or try some old favorites, our real estate agents highly recommend attending these events.
- New Orleans Mac & Cheese Festival: 300 Decatur St., New Orleans, LA 71030
Is there any food more comforting than mac and cheese? At the New Orleans Mac & Cheese Festival, you get to try mac and cheese made by a wide variety of vendors. Some vendors will be serving classic mac and cheese, but others will be serving their own unique versions. From Smoked Gouda Mac to Queso Mac With Bacon Bits, there truly is something for everyone.
This event is scheduled for Saturday, January 11th, at 1:00 pm. Tickets are $30 per person and include a tasting at every participating vendor. The event will take place rain or shine. Make sure you dress for the weather since you'll be walking from restaurant to restaurant.
- King Cake Workshop: 725 Howard Ave., New Orleans, LA 70130
King Cake is a New Orleans staple. Have you ever thought of making your own? If so, you should attend the King Cake Workshop with Matt Haines and Martha Gilreath. Participants will learn, step by step, how to bake the perfect King Cake.
This event is scheduled for January 28th and will last from 2:00 - 8:00 pm. Tickets are $85 per person, which includes all of the ingredients needed for the cake. This would be a fun activity to enjoy with friends or a few family members, and all levels of bakers are welcome.
Matt Haines, one of the teachers at this event, wrote a book called The Big Book of King Cake. Martha Gilreath owns a local New Orleans bakery called Nolita and has won several awards for her king cakes and other baked goods.
- Historic Open-Hearth Cooking Demonstrations: 820 St. Louis St., New Orleans, LA 70112
Years ago, Creole cuisine was often cooked on an open hearth. This can still be an amazing way to make Creole food today. The Hermann-Grima House is hosting several Historic Open-Hearth Cooking Demonstrations throughout the winter and early spring.
At this cooking demonstration on January 18th, you'll learn about the various tools and methods used to make Creole food over an open flame. You'll also see how the old-fashioned stove in the historic house operates. The demonstrations start at 10:00 am, and admission is $17 per person.

Cheers to New Beginnings: Jackson Family Wine Dinner at Copeland's Clearview is a celebration of food and wine. It will be held in a gorgeous, recently renovated dining room on January 16th. The event begins at 6:30 pm.
