The Call to Artists Art Show turns the spotlight on dazzling pieces that are a joint effort between a community of artists and art lovers. All art will be on display during the month of August at the East Baton Rouge River Center Library. A public reception is scheduled for Saturday, August 17 from 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Admission is free and there will be live music, refreshments, and art-based activities.

The natural connection between art and music forms the inspiration behind Pop Music Glass & Resin Workshop. Unleash your own creativity as you craft a pop music-inspired stained glass art piece in a pre-formed framework. Choose from subjects as varied as David Bowie, Elvis Presley, Madonna, and Michael Jackson. Appropriately, a soundtrack of pop music hits will play as you work. The workshop takes place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, and tickets are $60.

No overview of art in the Red Stick would be complete without the Baton Rouge Gallery. With roots that extend back to 1965, BRG has been showcasing the best in contemporary art from local artists for nearly 60 years. In association with BREC, the gallery functions as a non-profit cooperative in which members are selected by artists in the group. The current exhibit featuring John Alleyne, Diane Hanson, Brad Jensen, and Matt Morris runs through August 29, with the corresponding ARTiculate Artist Talk scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 11. Gallery hours are noon - 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
- 54th Annual River Road Show - Louisiana State Archives Gallery, 3851 Essen Ln., Baton Rouge, LA 70809
In 2024, the 54th Annual River Road Show received 296 submissions from a total of 96 artists across the United States. Finalists in the juried competition include 66 paintings created by artists from 10 states. Judge/Jurist Keiko Tanabe is a respected watercolor artist whose works have been displayed around the world. All pieces will be on display through September 26 at the Louisiana State Archives Gallery, with a reception on Thursday, August 29, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. weekdays, and admission is free.
